Speculation Intensifies Over Possible Modi Cabinet Reshuffle
Political circles in New Delhi are abuzz with reports of a possible reshuffle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Union Council of Ministers. A series of rapid developments on Tuesday has fueled speculation that significant changes could be announced in the coming days.
The discussions gained momentum after Prime Minister Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan following the Padma Awards ceremony. The President’s Office later shared photographs of the meeting, further triggering political speculation regarding an impending cabinet reorganization.
George Kurian Resigns as Union Minister
Adding to the reshuffle buzz, Minister of State for Minority Affairs, George Kurian resigned from his ministerial position on Tuesday.
Kurian’s Rajya Sabha term recently ended after he was not renominated by the BJP leadership during the latest Rajya Sabha elections. President Droupadi Murmu reportedly accepted his resignation immediately.
His departure is being viewed as the first major sign of a broader ministerial restructuring.
Several BJP Leaders Called Back to Delhi
Political developments within the BJP have also fueled speculation.
Reports suggest that BJP leader Nitin Nabin cut short his Punjab visit and returned to Delhi. Senior leaders, including Ravneet Singh Bittu and Tarun Chugh, have also been involved in high-level discussions.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has been asked by party leadership to return to Delhi amid ongoing political consultations.
Is Dharmendra Pradhan Facing Trouble?
One of the biggest talking points surrounding the rumored reshuffle is the future of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Sources indicate that Pradhan’s position may come under review following criticism related to the NEET-UG examination controversy and alleged paper leak issues that generated nationwide debate.
While no official confirmation has been made, political observers believe the education portfolio could witness changes if a reshuffle takes place.
More Ministers Could Step Down
Several Union Ministers who have recently received important organizational responsibilities within the BJP may also step away from ministerial roles.
Among the names being discussed are:
- Ravneet Singh Bittu
- Harsh Malhotra
- Pankaj Chaudhary
Party insiders believe these leaders could be assigned greater responsibilities ahead of upcoming state elections.
Punjab May Receive Greater Representation
Political analysts believe Punjab could gain increased representation in the Union Cabinet if an expansion takes place.
Names reportedly being considered include:
- Kamaljeet Sehrawat
- Satnam Singh Sandhu
- Sunil Jakhar
Such a move would align with the BJP’s efforts to strengthen its political presence in Punjab ahead of future electoral contests.
No Official Announcement Yet
Despite intense speculation, neither the Prime Minister’s Office nor the BJP leadership has officially confirmed any cabinet reshuffle.
However, the recent resignation, high-level meetings, and movement of senior leaders have significantly strengthened expectations that changes in the Union Cabinet could be announced soon.
For now, political observers remain focused on Delhi as the possibility of one of the most closely watched cabinet reshuffles of Modi’s third term continues to generate discussion.
