Akhilesh Yadav Meets Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata
Akhilesh Yadav met Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata on Thursday following the Trinamool Congress’ heavy defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
According to reports, the Samajwadi Party chief offered emotional support to Mamata Banerjee and reportedly told her, “Didi, you have not lost.”
The meeting quickly became one of the most talked-about political moments online.
Akhilesh Praises TMC’s Fight
During the meeting, Akhilesh Yadav also praised the efforts of the TMC leadership during the election campaign.
He reportedly told Abhishek Banerjee, “What a commendable battle you all have fought.”
Political observers believe the meeting signals continued opposition unity efforts against the BJP after the Bengal election results.
Akhilesh Targets BJP and Election Process
Speaking to the media later, Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of trying to suppress voting rights, especially among PDA communities — Pichhda, Dalit, and Alpsankhyak groups.
He also raised questions regarding electoral processes, data handling, and software systems linked to election management.
Akhilesh alleged that the BJP and Election Commission were changing the democratic process and claimed that Mamata Banerjee remains a strong political challenge for the BJP.
BJP Ends TMC’s 15-Year Rule
The BJP secured a massive victory in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly by winning 207 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark.
Meanwhile, All India Trinamool Congress was reduced to 80 seats, ending Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year rule in the state.
Despite the setback, Mamata Banerjee has reportedly promised to strengthen opposition unity and continue fighting politically.
