Suvendu Adhikari Takes Oath as Bengal CM: Meet BJP’s First West Bengal Cabinet

BJP Forms First Government in West Bengal 🏛️

Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal after the BJP secured a massive victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several senior BJP leaders and chief ministers from different states.

The BJP won 207 seats in the Assembly elections, ending the Trinamool Congress’ 15-year rule in the state.

Dilip Ghosh Included in Cabinet 🔥

Dilip Ghosh was among the leaders who took oath as minister.

A former West Bengal BJP president, Dilip Ghosh played a major role in expanding the BJP’s grassroots presence in the state after 2014. Before entering active politics, he worked as a full-time RSS pracharak.

He also served as a Lok Sabha MP from Medinipur constituency.

Agnimitra Paul Becomes Only Woman Minister 👩

Agnimitra Paul became the only woman minister in BJP’s first Bengal cabinet.

The two-time MLA from Asansol Dakshin retained her seat in the 2026 elections with a margin of over 40,000 votes.

Before joining politics in 2019, she was known in Kolkata’s fashion industry and ran her fashion label “Inga.” She had also designed outfits for celebrities like Sridevi and Hema Malini.

Ashok Kirtania represents Bangaon Uttar in North 24 Parganas and is considered influential in Matua politics.

Kshudiram Tudu

Kshudiram Tudu represents the tribal-dominated Ranibandh constituency in Jungle Mahal and is seen as an important tribal face of the BJP.

Nisith Pramanik

A prominent young BJP leader, Nisith Pramanik previously served as Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Youth Affairs & Sports. He is known for his strong influence in North Bengal politics.

Record Voter Turnout in Bengal Elections 🗳️

The 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections witnessed record-breaking voter participation.

  • Phase I turnout: 93.19%
  • Phase II turnout: 91.66%
  • Overall turnout: 92.47%

This became one of the highest voter turnouts recorded in the state since Independence.

Scope for Cabinet Expansion Ahead 📌

The maximum strength of the West Bengal Council of Ministers can go up to 44 members.

Currently, only a few ministers have taken oath, leaving room for further cabinet expansion in the coming weeks.
