India’s busiest railway hub, New Delhi Railway Station, is set for a massive transformation as a large-scale redevelopment project officially gets underway. The upgrade, led by the Rail Land Development Authority, is expected to take around four years to complete.
Currently, construction work has begun on the Paharganj side of the station, with plans to gradually revamp platforms and other infrastructure. Given the heavy daily footfall, authorities are taking steps to ensure that the redevelopment process does not disrupt passenger movement.
🚆 30 Trains to Be Shifted
To manage congestion during construction, Indian Railways has proposed shifting around 30 trains from New Delhi station to other railway stations in Delhi. The list of trains and their alternate stations has already been finalized and sent to the Railway Board for approval.
Once approved, these trains will operate from different stations instead of New Delhi, helping reduce pressure on platforms and improve crowd management.

Officials believe that the plan could be implemented before major festivals like Diwali and Chhath Puja, when passenger traffic peaks. This proactive step aims to prevent overcrowding and ensure smoother travel for passengers during high-demand periods.
