In a major relief for farmers, the Union Cabinet of India on Wednesday approved a massive ₹2.6 lakh crore allocation for Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement for the 2026-27 financial year.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Narendra Modi. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the key decisions after the meeting.

The government increased MSP for 14 Kharif crops, providing significant support to farmers facing challenges due to weather conditions and global market uncertainties.

🌾 MSP Increased For 14 Kharif Crops

The Cabinet approved higher MSP rates for multiple Kharif crops for the upcoming season.

Among all crops, the highest MSP increase was announced for sunflower seeds, where support prices were raised by ₹622 per quintal.

The government believes the move will improve farmer income and encourage higher crop production during the Kharif season.

Officials said the MSP hike is aimed at protecting farmers from inflation, rising cultivation costs, and volatile global commodity prices.

📋 4 Big Cabinet Decisions Announced
1️⃣ ₹2.6 Lakh Crore MSP Package For Farmers

The biggest announcement focused on agriculture support and MSP procurement for Kharif crops during FY2026-27.

This decision is expected to directly benefit millions of farmers across India.

2️⃣ ₹37,500 Crore Coal Gasification Scheme

The government approved a massive investment of ₹37,500 crore under the coal gasification scheme.

The objective is to produce 100 million tonnes of gas from coal by 2030, helping India reduce energy imports and strengthen domestic fuel production.

3️⃣ High-Speed Rail Double Line Project In Gujarat

The Cabinet also cleared a major railway infrastructure project between Sarkhej and Dholera in Gujarat.

The double-line high-speed rail project received approval worth ₹20,667 crore and is expected to improve connectivity and industrial growth in the region.

Gujarat continues to remain a major focus area for large-scale infrastructure development projects.

4️⃣ Nagpur International Airport Upgrade

The government approved the modernization and upgrade of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport.

The airport expansion project aims to improve passenger facilities, increase capacity, and support regional economic growth.

📈 Big Relief For Farmers Ahead Of Kharif Season

The MSP increase comes at a crucial time as farmers across several states have faced crop losses due to changing weather conditions and global economic pressures.

Experts believe the higher MSP rates could:

  • Improve farmer confidence
  • Increase sowing activity
  • Support rural demand
  • Boost agricultural income

The government’s latest cabinet decisions are being viewed as a strong push toward agriculture support, infrastructure growth, and energy security ahead of FY2026-27.
