J&K Weather Alert! Rain, Thunderstorms & Hailstorms Set to End Heatwave

Heatwave Conditions Continue Across Jammu & Kashmir

Residents across Jammu and Kashmir are currently battling unusually high temperatures as heatwave-like conditions continue to intensify across the region.

According to the Meteorological Department (MeT) in Srinagar, hot and dry weather is expected to persist on Thursday. However, a significant weather change is likely from Friday, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heat.

Over the past few days, temperatures have surged to unusually high levels, making this one of the hottest periods experienced in the region this year.

Rain and Thunderstorms Expected From June 12

The MeT Department has forecast generally cloudy conditions on June 12, accompanied by:

🌧 Light to Moderate Rain

⛈ Thunderstorms

⚡ Lightning Activity

🌨 Hailstorms

💨 Gusty Winds

Weather experts believe the change in weather will help bring down temperatures across several districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Strong Winds May Reach 60 kmph

Authorities have warned that wind speeds could increase significantly during the upcoming weather system.

Forecasts indicate:

💨 Sustained Winds: 40–50 kmph

💨 Gust Speeds: Up to 60 kmph

The strongest impact is expected in parts of North Kashmir and South Kashmir, where thunderstorms and intense showers could occur.

Weather Outlook Till June 17

According to the latest forecast, weather conditions between June 13 and June 17 are expected to remain unstable.

Residents may experience:

✔ Partly Cloudy to Cloudy Skies

✔ Light Rainfall

✔ Short Intense Showers

✔ Thunderstorms

✔ Lightning Activity

✔ Strong Gusty Winds

Rainfall activity is expected at scattered locations across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

Flash Flood and Mudslide Warning Issued

The Meteorological Department has also issued an advisory warning of weather-related hazards.

Officials have cautioned that isolated areas could witness:

🚨 Flash Floods

🚨 Mudslides

🚨 Waterlogging

🚨 Localized Damage Due to Strong Winds

The risk is expected to remain elevated between June 11 and June 14, especially in vulnerable mountainous and hilly regions.

Residents Advised to Stay Alert

Authorities have urged residents, tourists and commuters to remain cautious during periods of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

People living near landslide-prone and flood-prone areas have been advised to closely monitor weather updates and follow instructions issued by local administration.

Relief Expected After Intense Heat

While the upcoming weather system may cause temporary disruptions, it is also expected to provide significant relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions affecting the Union Territory.

Weather experts believe the rainfall could help lower temperatures and improve overall weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days.
