Thousands of users across the United States and several other countries faced difficulties accessing YouTube on Tuesday after a widespread service disruption affected multiple platforms under the video-streaming giant.
The outage impacted YouTube.com, the YouTube mobile app, YouTube Music, YouTube Kids, and YouTube TV, leaving users unable to watch videos, log in, or stream content smoothly.
Extent of the YouTube Outage
According to outage-tracking platform Downdetector, the disruption peaked with over 240,000 user reports in the US. In India, nearly 17,000 complaints were registered during the same period, indicating the global scale of the issue.
Users reported a range of problems, including:
- Videos not loading or appearing
- Playback failures
- Login and account access issues
- Streaming interruptions on YouTube TV

YouTube Acknowledges the Issue
YouTube quickly acknowledged the outage via a post on X (formerly Twitter). The company assured users that its technical teams were actively investigating the problem.
“If you’re having trouble accessing YouTube right now, you’re not alone — our teams are looking into this,” the platform said.
The company also noted that a small number of users were unable to log in to YouTube TV, clarifying that the issue was part of a broader platform-wide problem.
Final Update: Services Restored
Later, YouTube issued a final update, confirming that all affected services had been fully restored.
“Final Update: The issue with our recommendations system has been resolved and all of our platforms — YouTube.com, the YouTube app, YouTube Music, Kids, and TV — are back to normal. We appreciate your patience while we fixed this,” the company said on a Google support page.
What Caused the YouTube Outage?
According to Google, which owns YouTube, the outage was caused by a technical issue in the recommendations system.
This glitch prevented videos from appearing across several surfaces, including:
- The YouTube homepage
- Mobile applications
- YouTube Music
- YouTube Kids
Because recommendations play a critical role in loading content, the malfunction led to widespread visibility and playback issues.
Current Status
As of the latest update, all YouTube platforms are functioning normally, and the company has confirmed that the issue has been fully resolved.
