NTPC Khavda Solar Project

Two major solar power projects have recently begun operations at the Khavda renewable energy hub in Gujarat, marking a significant advancement in India’s clean energy expansion.

Surat-based renewable energy firm KPI Green Energy has commenced commercial generation from its 200 MW solar power plant located in the 1.8 GW GSECL Solar Park (South Block) at Khavda. This project, awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), has achieved grid synchronization and started feeding electricity into the state grid. The facility integrates advanced systems such as IoT-enabled robotic cleaning and real-time monitoring infrastructure to improve operational efficiency and reduce water use. It is expected to supply renewable power equivalent to the annual needs of approximately 130,000 households.

In a related development, NTPC Green Energy — through its wholly owned subsidiary NTPC Renewable Energy — has commissioned the first 210 MW unit of its 1.2 GW Khavda-II Solar PV Project. This is part of a broader renewable rollout strategy and expands NTPC Green Energy’s commercial capacity, strengthening its contribution to India’s solar generation goals.

These commissioning milestones form part of larger national efforts to scale up solar infrastructure under public sector schemes and support India’s transition toward cleaner power sources.
