🌍 NASA Reveals First Earth Images from Deep Space

NASA has unveiled the first breathtaking images of Earth captured from inside the Orion spacecraft during the ongoing Artemis II.

The photos, taken by mission commander Reid Wiseman, show Earth glowing against the vast darkness of space, covered in swirling cloud patterns and illuminated by sunlight.

🚀 Journey Toward the Moon

As of Friday morning, the crew had already travelled around 100,000 miles (160,000 km) from Earth and were steadily approaching the moon, with roughly the same distance still to cover.

The mission is currently in its third day of a planned 10-day journey.

👩‍🚀 Historic Crew on Board

The Artemis II mission includes:

  • Reid Wiseman (Commander)
  • Christina Koch
  • Victor Glover
  • Jeremy Hansen

Notably, Christina Koch is set to become the first woman to travel around the moon.

🌌 A View That Leaves Astronauts Speechless

Astronauts described the sight of Earth from deep space as emotional and unforgettable. The images show:

  • 🌊 Entire oceans visible from afar
  • ☁️ Thick cloud formations wrapping the planet
  • 🌌 A glowing green aurora lighting up parts of Earth

Victor Glover described the view as a reminder that humanity is united:

“From up here, we are all one.”

🌕 What Happens Next?
  • The spacecraft will fly around the moon (no landing)
  • Closest approach: 4,000–6,000 miles above lunar surface
  • Crew will travel around the far side of the moon
  • Return journey will use the moon’s gravity

📅 Expected splashdown: April 11, 2026 in the Pacific Ocean.

🧠 Why This Mission Matters

The Artemis II mission marks:

  • The first human deep-space lunar flyby in over 50 years
  • A major step toward future moon landings and Mars missions
  • A powerful reminder of Earth’s fragility and unity
