Kerala Local Body Election Results 2025 LIVE Updates: The counting of votes for the Kerala local body elections began at 8 AM on Saturday, revealing a strong performance by the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) across cities and towns. Meanwhile, the NDA scripted history by winning the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation for the first time, marking a significant political shift in the state capital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reacting to the landmark victory, said in a post that the people of Kerala are showing signs of being “disenchanted with both the UDF and LDF,” while thanking voters in Thiruvananthapuram for placing their trust in the NDA.
Two-Phase Polling Across Kerala
The Kerala local body elections were conducted in two phases on December 9 and December 11, covering 1,199 out of 1,200 local bodies across the state. Mattannur municipality in Kannur district did not go to polls, as its elections are scheduled for September 2027.
Voter participation remained robust:
- Phase 1 turnout: 70.91%
- Phase 2 turnout: 76.08% (across seven districts)
These elections were held to choose representatives for municipal corporations, municipalities, gram panchayats, block panchayats, and district panchayats.
Why the Kerala Local Body Elections Are Crucial
The results of the Kerala Local Body Elections 2025 are seen as a key indicator of political sentiment ahead of the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections. Historically, outcomes in local body polls have reflected voter dissatisfaction with the ruling alliance.
In previous cycles, verdicts in 2010 and 2015 went against the ruling fronts, followed by Opposition victories in the 2011 and 2016 Assembly elections. Political analysts believe the current trends could once again influence the state’s electoral trajectory.
