pakistan vs england

Pakistan all-rounder Salman Agha has heaped praise on Harry Brook after England pulled off a thrilling two-wicket victory over Pakistan in their Super 8 Group 2 clash at the T20 World Cup in Pallekele.

England skipper Harry Brook played one of the finest knocks of the tournament, smashing a sensational 100 off just 51 balls to rescue his team from early trouble. Promoted to No. 3 for the first time in his T20I career, Brook dominated from the outset, scoring 41 of England’s 53 Powerplay runs and dismantling Pakistan’s bowling attack with fearless strokeplay.

🔥 Early Pakistan Dominance, Brook’s Counterattack

Pakistan began the defence in dramatic fashion as Shaheen Afridi struck twice in the opening overs, removing Phil Salt for a golden duck and dismissing Jos Buttler cheaply. Shaheen also picked up the wicket of Bethell, finishing with three Powerplay scalps and putting England firmly on the back foot.

However, Brook weathered the storm calmly before launching a brutal counterattack. He punished both spin and pace, hammering Mohammad Nawaz for two fours and a six in one over, and later sent Shadab Khan over long-on with a massive 96-metre straight six — a moment that decisively swung the match in England’s favour.

🗣️ Salman Agha’s Honest Take

Reflecting on Brook’s impact, Salman Agha admitted that the England batter often proves to be the difference in big matches.

“Whenever Pakistan lose, it feels like he’s the one making the difference. Credit to him — he batted brilliantly. In this kind of form, he plays all around the ground, 360 degrees, which makes it extremely difficult to set fields and execute plans,” Agha said.

He added that Pakistan started well with both bat and ball but failed to close out the game.

“We bowled really well up front on a mixed surface. Then Harry came in and completely took the game away from us. We threw everything at him, but he was simply too good today.”

📊 Match Summary

Brook’s historic century — the first ever by an England captain in a men’s T20 World Cup — guided England cricket team to 166/8 in 19.1 overs. Will Jacks chipped in with a valuable 28, while Pakistan’s Usman Tariq fought back with two key wickets late in the innings.

England eventually sealed the chase with five balls to spare, confirming their fifth consecutive men’s T20 World Cup semifinal appearance.
