Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has made a bold prediction ahead of the T20 World Cup semifinal between the India national cricket team and the England cricket team.
Speaking during a television discussion in Pakistan, Latif said he believes England will defeat India and move into the tournament final.
The semifinal clash is expected to be one of the most exciting matches of the competition.
Winner to Face New Zealand in Final
The winner of the semifinal will face the New Zealand national cricket team in the tournament final.
New Zealand confirmed their place in the title match after defeating the South Africa national cricket team in the other semifinal.

India vs England T20 World Cup Record
Historically, India have a slight advantage over England in T20 World Cup encounters.
The two teams have faced each other several times in the tournament, with India holding a 3–2 lead in head-to-head results.
Their first meeting came during the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, when India secured an 18-run victory. That match is still remembered for Yuvraj Singh hitting six consecutive sixes in a single over.
England later won a close match in the 2009 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, while India dominated the 2012 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup clash with a convincing victory.
England again defeated India in the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semifinal before India turned the tables in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup under captain Rohit Sharma.
Why Latif Backs England
Despite India’s stronger record, Latif believes England have the momentum in this tournament.
According to him, England’s middle order is performing well and the team has adapted to challenging conditions during the competition.
He also noted that even a single standout performance from an England player could make the difference in such a crucial match.
England’s Strong Run in the Tournament
England have shown resilience throughout the tournament.
The team managed to win several close games and remained unbeaten on their path to the semifinals. They also secured an important victory over New Zealand during the Super 8 stage.
England captain Harry Brook said winning tight matches has boosted the team’s confidence heading into the knockout stages.
Brook added that the team has often found ways to win games even when the situation looked difficult, which could prove valuable in major tournaments like the World Cup.
