Anthony Davis Reportedly Headed to Washington in Massive 8-Player Trade

Ten-time All-Star Anthony Davis is reportedly on his way to the Washington Wizards as part of a blockbuster eight-player trade with the Dallas Mavericks, according to multiple reports.

📦 Trade Details (As Reported)

Washington Wizards receive:

  • Anthony Davis
  • Jaden Hardy
  • D’Angelo Russell
  • Dante Exum

Dallas Mavericks receive:

  • Khris Middleton
  • AJ Johnson
  • Malaki Branham
  • Marvin Bagley III
  • Two future first-round draft picks
  • Three future second-round draft picks

🔄 End of a Controversial Era in Dallas

The deal effectively closes the chapter on the high-profile trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers last year in exchange for a package centered around Davis.

That move was orchestrated by former Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, who was dismissed in November following a disappointing start to the season. Since his departure, speculation surrounding Davis’ future in Dallas had steadily intensified.

🏥 Injury Update on Davis

Davis has been sidelined since mid-January due to a torn ligament in his left hand. The injury does not require surgery, and he remains within the original four-to-six-week recovery timeline.

🧙‍♂️ Wizards Shift From Rebuild to Push Forward

After back-to-back seasons with 67 and 64 losses, Washington has clearly changed direction. The Wizards acquired Trae Young last month and now add Davis to accelerate their climb.

Once healthy, Davis and Young are expected to headline a young core that includes promising big man Alex Sarr, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft, along with emerging talents such as Kyshawn George, Bub Carrington, Bilal Coulibaly, and standout rookie Tre Johnson.

🔵 Dallas Focuses on the Future

From Dallas’ perspective, the move clears the path to fully build around star rookie Cooper Flagg, freeing up frontcourt minutes and long-term flexibility.

Flagg, who is averaging over 20 points per game, won’t turn 20 until next season. The Mavericks have struggled during his recent heavy-usage stretch, dropping five straight games and sitting 12th in the Western Conference at 19-31.

All four players acquired by Dallas are set to become free agents this summer, as the franchise weighs its next steps — including decisions surrounding Kyrie Irving, who has not played since tearing his ACL last March.

📊 Davis’ Time in Dallas

In two partial seasons with the Mavericks, Davis appeared in just 31 games, including two play-in tournament contests last year, as injuries limited his availability.
